Office Hysteroscopy
This
is an office procedure which requires little or no anesthesia.
Dr. G. DeAn Strobel usually asks that the patient take a medication
such as naproxen or ibuprofen about 30 minutes prior to the procedure
to reduce cramping.
Hysteroscopy is a technique used by doctors to get more information about the uterus when there are certain problems present. These problems may include infertility, repeated miscarriage, irregular bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding, abnormal growths (fibroids or polyps) or misplaced IUDs.
During this procedure, a tiny camera is inserted into the vagina, through the cervix, and into the uterine cavity. A fluid called sterile normal saline is used to distend the uterus so that any abnormalities may be seen. Dr. Strobel will guide you throughout the entire procedure and will point out any abnormalities on a television screen in the room. She will then be able to biopsy any abnormal areas.
Some women may feel faint or nauseated during and after the procedure. Most will likely experience some vaginal bleeding and mild cramping for a day or so following the procedure. You should Contact by E-Mail Dr. Strobel if you experience hemorrhaging, a high fever or severe abdominal pain.
