Surgery to remove cervical cancer may be an option when the cancer is confined to the cervix or uterus.

Surgery Choices

The type of surgery performed depends on the location and extent of cervical cancer and your desire to preserve fertility.

Surgery for early stages of cervical cancer that preserve fertility includes the following.

Cone biopsy or loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP)

Radical trachelectomy and laparoscopic surgery for pelvic lymph node dissection. Radical trachelectomy is not commonly used and is considered an investigational therapy.
